RendezVous: Electronica Meets Jazz
When we first heard wind of the band RendezVous’ rise to underground fame, we hastily tried to find their music on the Web. After a few searches, we found out that RendezVous was an electronica band. We then braced ourselves for synth tracks with looped verses that showcase anything from house and trance to jungle and downtempo.
And when we finally got to listen to RendezVous’ tracks, we were blown away! Their songs showed an avant-garde way of highlighting old and classic genres of music. Nowhere near the techno and breakbeat that we expected to hear, RendezVous’ sound obviously became famous for a reason.
We talked to RendezVous’ Itai Simon to get the juicy details about their novel take on electropop.
So tell us, how did RendezVous get its name?
Our name, RendezVous, tells the story of how it all began. To think it all started with a fateful meeting in Rimon School of Jazz and Contemporary Music! That’s where Hagai Izenberg (the other half of RendezVous) first met. That was the beginning of our long journey in music - and that’s why we were named RendezVous.
How did you come up with your first EP? Your music sure sounds effortlessly made; did you have any difficulties coming up with the tracks?
After our fateful meeting, Hagai and I produced a recording session with two great musicians, Erez Bachar and Andrei. Erez at that time was a drummer in another band who has already released two albums, while Andrei was a Russian saxophonist who could not speak a single word in English! Still, music was a universal language, so we bridged our gaps through music.
What do you have to offer your fans in 2010?
RendezVous is currently working on a debut album. This is the first album we will release, hopefully by this year. We are grateful to be teaming up with the likes of David Bascombe, known producer and mix engineer. He has actually done work with famous bands like Tears for Fears and Depeche Mode. Our debut album features a lot of vibe, sound, and mood. It’s like our EP, but better!
