Free album "Thru' the Fly Machine" / Psychedelic Indie for the modern age

As Clinker, we have just started making our new album "Thru' the Fly Machine" available as a FREE download. We’ve sat on it for a few months wondering what to do with it, but after much discussion we decided that we’d rather just give it away and let you all have it. We’ve started giving it away at gigs too on CD, so if you want a hard copy get along to one of our gigs and we’ll have a limited supply there.

It’s an album that we are extremely happy with. It says more about what Clinker stands for than anything else we’ve done in the past. 12 tracks, including The Line, Searching For a New World, Hallucination Generation, Mire and Let’s Go Out and Get Fucked. So get downloading, via our website…

Some thoughts on writer's block

Writer's block is a frustrating condition, where the person affected appears to be cut off from their creative output and it does happen to us all at one time or another. So by identifying it we hope to see it more clearly. Block is when your writing feels stagnant, uninspired and dull, and will even produce a lethargy to the whole idea of being creative. But there is still a desire to create and that is accompanied by a feeling of a lack of a spark to initiate it, a mental and creative brickwall. Some people maintain that you just have to work through it and introduce limitations to force the issue, but this can be unrewarding and hard, especially when you are feeling lethargic to the whole process. So here is a short meditational trick that may help you to get through it and kick start the creative process. Sit quietly and begin to clear the thoughts from your mind. Then imagine that you are pulling all of your internal and external energy (from your feet, hands and centre) up to a point at the crown of your head, stay relaxed and empty your mind further until you feel calm and almost removed from yourself. Then gradually come out of this state pick up your instrument and play, anything, wildly without concentrating at first and then slowly regain your natural composure but keep playing whist not really concentrating on what you are doing. Finally take notice of what you are playing, is there something there that caches your ear and gives you a point from where to start from? A happy accident. Hopefully, you may feel a lot lighter and have your inspiration on the way to being restored. This may seem like mere quackery but give it a try, it should only take a few minutes. And I hope that this is useful.

We are releasing our album “Clinker” for FREE for download to mailing list subscribers. Release date is 20^th December 2008.

The album was finished in January 2008 and was very representive of our live set at the time, plus an extra dollop of Clinker oddness on the side. We were (and still are) very happy with it. By March, we’d lost our bass player (Joe). We spent the rest of this year trying to suitabley replace him, so we could finally be able to make the album widely available and play the songs live regularly.

During this time, we carried on recording and it soon become clear the next album was going to sound quite different. Now we have another new one almost finished which is the next step on for us. So we’ve decided to give this one (“Clinker”) away.

Take it it’s yours (on December 20^th)!!!
