Guitarist Mark Cloutier smiles about his part on the CD "New English Blues" by British veteran J.C. Carroll.

He thinks it's cool that his work is getting radio play on the BBC.

Reviews in the United Kingdom have been hot. "In the tradition of the Who's 'Tommy' and Pink Floyd's 'Dark Side of the Moon,' this magnificent album explores the melancholy and outrage that is at the heart of the English psyche," wrote a reviewer in the newspaper London Music.

And to think that the Central New York bluesman did it all without leaving the simple home studio - which cost $200 - he set up in his home in East Syracuse.

The only way Cloutier and Carroll have ever met is online.

"We developed a mutual friendship through musicians' Web sites," Cloutier says.

They've traded music back and forth with MP3 files, a computer format that allows music to be sent online.

As soon as Carroll heard Cloutier's distinctive guitar sound, he wanted to include him on his album.

"The Internet is rammed full of guys in their bedrooms uploading their shredding on guitar," Carroll writes, appropriately enough, in an e-mail from London. "Although Mark mainly plays the blues, he has something about his sound that is unique, and you can tell it is him straight away."

Carroll used Cloutier's guitar work on three of the dozen songs on the CD.

Not Dead

From an excerpt from one of Pink's songs, "I'm not dead...just floating..." I'm sure by now anyone who has been following our progress is wondering what the hell happened??? I finally have the energy and the time to update anyone who may be a bit curious.

Paul and I were on a roll with our progress of the new album by the end of last year. We had established a group of fine people and wonderful critics to help us select the material for the upcoming album (the A-Team), we were still charting from the 1st album, we were getting radio play and radio interviews all over the world, and we had signed with a talent buyer. Aside from a few glitches in the matrix, we were on target. But as anyone with a real life knows, things change and they can change overnight.

My son and his fiance' hit hard times and moved in with us to re-group and to save money to move out of state, my oldest daughter's own music career was showing great promise and needed our immediate attention (ie. recording her CD , prepping for a short tour in the mid west, marketing, design and then the expense of keeping her there etc...), some other major dealings with our children and with that, family court..., and to top it off, a failing housing market that left us with debt double what our house is now currently worth. All of this left us with no extra time, energy or resources to continue with our own projects. We found ourselves in the slowest season for studio work and with such an immense overhead, we simply had to put things on hold.

Paul and I are both working to maintain our investments and now playing catch up with everything that accrued over the last 4 or 5 months. But now, even though we are working overtime, I find that with the kids settled, I have much more energy to hop back on board and get busy with our next release.

I have had some reservations about the follow up CD. Until the release of 'Through the Fire', I had not considered myself solely a 'Blues' singer. I have always had a love and appreciation for that style but have written and performed in many genres, enjoying them equally. So, upon writing the songs for the next CD, I found that I was getting disappointed and a bit stressed that 'Blues', at least in the form it found itself in on 'Through the Fire', was not what I was writing. The influence was still there but my inspiration was showing up in a different form or more aptly, style.

I've battled with myself over what to do until coming to the conclusion that I have to follow my inspiration. To force a song style to try and glue everything together is not creative...and creating is what I love the most.

So my hope is for those of you who are die hard fans of the blues and the songs on 'Through the Fire', that you will not be disappointed in this sophmore album. My hope is that you will join me on this little jouney, such as it is, and hopefully still find something that speaks to your heart, something that moves you!

Centralising

I am in the midst of trying to centralise all of the music sites that my music is on as I am about to return to nursing in the next 6-8 weeks & won�t have the time to fanny about going from site to site to keep in touch with friends and fans from these numerous sites. I fully intend to maintain contact with my affiliated sites but the frequency will be sporadic due to time constraints.

I have decided to centralise at �ReverbNation� or my personal website.

Returning to music has kept me sober for all but 6 out of 348 days, which was the initial aim of the game, so it seems to be working. I�m enjoying it too. With the exception of my children, it is the ONLY thing I have got genuine enjoyment for waaaay too long.
