Classical

Since the age of six, Brian Cai has been playing the piano. What started as a mere hobbie of playing the keyboard became a great dedication, making his piano playing one of his most important attributes. He was successful in many competitions such as the Young Artist Piano Competition of New Jersey and the Cincinnati World Piano Competition, in which he received silver. As a winner, he had the opportunity to play at Carnegie Hall at the age of thirteen.

While he was studying classical piano, Brian Cai also began experimenting with jazz, being the pianist for the school jazz band since sixth grade. In jazz festivals, he received many best soloist awards, such as Bost Music in the Parks and the Cavalcade Championships.

In 2009, Brian Cai won second in the West Chester University Annual Piano Competition. He also went back to the Cincinnati World Piano Competition and won silver again at a higher level.

Currently, Brian Cai takes lessons with Marcantonio Barone at the Bryn Mawr Conservatory of Music

Classical

From the young age of eight years old, my parents thought it important that their children learn a musical instrument. My parents, having no musical background, thought it wonderful for music to be apart of our lives and in our home. Being then enrolled in private lessons, each teacher during my first three years were very instrumental in my beginning stages of learning. By the third year, we found a permanent teacher that I studied with for the following six years. There my musical foundation was laid, as my teacher carefully taught me the fundamentals of music making and taught me to be a very well rounded young musician. Performance opportunities and competitions in the area began to show me the joys of sharing my music with other listeners, taught me how to deal with nerves, prepare for deadlines, and reach for perfection. Accompanying opportunities also began to come in abundance when my older brother began playing the violin. Accompanying recitals and ensembles were opportunities that taught me how to work with other musicians and support others in their endeavors to experience the joys of music with their own instruments. Church music opportunities also abounded as I learned more and more. Being a church pianist since I was twelve years old, there were many moments for learning how to accompany, arrange, sight read in a moments notice, improvise, and fulfill the weekly job of a pianist. At the age of thirteen, amazing orchestral experiences also came into play as I stepped into the realm of the area symphony orchestra. In the spring of 2007, I had the experience of performing a concerto with the Longview Area Youth Symphony Orchestra. Other opportunities such as master classes with other professional musicians also gave me a view into the different stylistic approaches each artist possesses. Many books and articles, written by master musicians, were also much to my delight as I am anxious to learn anything I can get my hands on. Books, recordings, and performances, provided me with inspiring information I am always eager to apply as I further develop my concept of music making. Teaching other children was a quickly found avenue that delighted me greatly. Sharing great musical concepts with others just beginning to discover music was a thrill and desire of mine. As I gained hands on experience by teaching other beginner students in the area, I learned how to communicate my thoughts efficiently and relay to others all I had been taught. At the age of 14, I participated in a master class and competition with pianist Dr. Luis Sanchez who is the Assistant Professor of Piano at Texas A&M University-Commerce. Because of his expert teaching and playing skills we inquired of his willingness to take me as a student even though it is 90 miles from our home. He accepted me into his own private teaching this summer of 2009. As I learn and continue on my musical journey I am thrilled with the great experiences I am partaking in as I participate in piano competitions, continue my teaching of local students, reside as an orchestral and church pianist, and continue my studies in the joys of making and sharing beautiful music.

Classical, Electronica, Experimental

This is just some amateurish classical-type music I created with KB Piano (www.gfsoftware.com) The ambition was there but the skill obviously was not. I created this page here to upload my efforts, i.e., those which I think may sound like something, the others were so bad they ended up in the Windows Recycle bin

Trinkets from the afterlife

Psychedelic, Experimental, Classical

In early 1977 a young guitarist took on a new job as caretaker for an old estate house in a remote area of Arkansas. He had heard local legends tell of people going insane, and or committing gruesome murders after living at the house. The rumors only made the prospects for him that more exciting, and a chance to work on and study musical ideas. In the course of a few months, the guitarist and a couple of his friends had formed a rock band beginning a bitter-sweet career that lasted till 1985. in the early days, the band discovered the house had acoustic properties giving their music an eerie sonic feel. High ceilings, thick walls, and a huge fore-room added to the sound. The realization soon became evident that someone or something was guiding the band's musical abilities far beyond their own knowledge or skill. Things began to appear in physical form without explanation, including so called orbs, disembodied voices, faces of people and animals and so on.. The band members were at first frightened but soon came to grips with the idea of other entities guiding their musical prowess. From the beginning, the band was all about originality, and other concepts fused together to form a sound like no other. Elements of rock, blues, folk, and classical music was the end result that kept them occupied day, and night. After time spent honing their music, and entertaining the presence in the house, they toured regions of Arkansas, Texas, and Oklahoma, finally coming home to a tragic event that would claim the life of their singer. Like many before him, he had fallen to the vices of alcohol, and drugs. Arrested one night, he staged a mock hanging of himself in his jail cell, tragically back-firing taking his own life. Two years later to the day, the band's bass player found dead of unknown causes, his body perfectly balanced on the rafters inside the old house. As for the drummer, his wife and family were forced to commit him to the state hospital where to this day still resides. the founding member and sole survivor of this band, eventually left the shelter of the old house, taking along with him the music, and memories of that era in his life. The music of this band (Trinkets from the afterlife) has been written and produced by that same guitarist, piecing together the lives, and events of those stories lived out in the past. Together with two new band members, each piece of music has evolved through time , and possesses a mood, and feel for it's particular moment of the whole experience. It is now available for the first time to lovers of music that tells a story with sound.
