New Lyrics, New Album.

Now recording my second album and I've come full circle. It will be a totally acoustic recording and the working title is "Cecile Park"

Big thanks to all of you that have downloaded tracks here, it means a lot.
Be back soon with new music.

Here are the lyrics to "It's Hard To Believe"

It’s Hard To Believe (from my forthcoming album)

So glad you remember me
After all this time you’re hear for me to feel
You came to comfort me
A pain in my heart that only you could heal

Now I’m left here standing with just a photograph
I remember the first time I ever saw you laugh

You were sick in your shoes
You were breaking all the rules
It’s hard to believe that you won’t ever come back

I still sing your melodies
As I lie awake dreaming of the past
Your life is a part of me
I have to carry on to know how to make it last

Now I’m left here standing with just a photograph
I remember the first time I ever saw you laugh

You came knocking at my door
Only wanting what we had before
It’s hard to believe that supper would be our last

I recall when you told me, you were living on borrowed time
You’d lost sight of everything
Even though we were two of a kind
Don’t know If it’s irony, ridiculous or sublime
Your heart is inside of me. Until the day that I die

Now I’m left here standing with just a photograph
I remember the first time I ever saw you laugh

We used to sing our own blues
After watching the lunchtime news
It’s hard to believe that song would be our last

These lyrics were inspired by my friend Andy Reed who was such a sweet soul and I do miss him. His life was too short.
There were times I would just listen to him, sometimes I’d hold him and at other times I’d want to grab him by the collar and aagh fuck knows. We helped each other through some heavy emotional shit and we used to co-write together and that ain’t easy. I recorded one of his songs “I wonder Why” on my debut album and I’m sure I could feel his soul whilst recording. Something got to me that day and I’ve been driven to do this ever since and just let it all flow.
We both had no concept of bullshit and we felt quite invincible together. We formed a band and did odd jobs. We’d play songs together 24/7. I know so many people have lost someone close and it hurts. This is my way of dealing with it, I sing Andys’ songs, I write about him and sometimes I sense him and that can be enough.

This song will be on my new album, would be nice if he pops in when I’m recording it but then again he did not turn up for his stag night. He was sick in his shoes, he did handle 7 guys who jumped him (they were not to know Andy was a black belt taekwando expert) and he did have his air supply cut off while working on the rigs in The Gulf. Most of all though, a true friend who was always there for me and our story needs to be told.

I can’t write books and anyway his father is an author and he has already written Andy’s story in a splendid way but that is a very private affair. I can’t come close to that but I can write a song about him and I know I have his blessing.

I often raise a glass to Andy Reed.

Love and music.
New FREE Download

Sorry for my abscence, I'm back with new material for my second album. I'd really got distracted from doing what I do which is record songs. Although been able to self promote via the web is a great thing, it really can get to you. This new track will feature on my second album. The song is called "The Stone That Brought The Girl", people have asked for an explanation of the title so here goes-:
Common scenario of a couple being told they can't have children, so we'd kind of accepted this. We were travelling in Vietnam and I was somewhere up The Mekong and whilst in a buddhist temple I noticed two large stones with water cascading down upon them. A monk told me if I went under the water I could touch only one of the stones. One would bless me with wealth and the other would give us a child. What would you choose?
I am still not wealthy but I am now the father of a beautiful little girl, this inspired the title and became the song. Voila. Inspiration comes from the strangest sources.
Enjoy the song and make of it what you will and I'd really love feedback at this stage of putting my second album together.
Love and music.
Al.
Admin Blues

Sorry for not posting anything for a while. I really needed a rest from promotion, sussing out the sharks that are trying to rip off independent musicians and just keeping on top of a kind of an organised crazy admin.

At last help is at hand. I'm in negotiation with a music publisher/tv and film placement specialist that would leave me totally free to concentrate on my second album. I have a studio and producer in mind. So all my efforts are now starting to pay off. MySpace has been superb for networking and I should have signed up a couple of years ago but hey! hindsight is wonderful.

So I'm expecting things to really move over the coming months and will be ending 2007 in style. I may just release an e.p as this all depends on funding. I must admit that the decline of the CD is approaching (another 10 yrs I'd say) Digital is obviously the future but at least we can reach the same audience as the big boys. So here's to a successful end to a bloody hard working year that has also been a learning curve.

I shall not be denied.

Changing producer

I've had a bit of a break from the P.C and been back making music. I just demoed 5 songs at a friends studio in London which was basically a live performance with 2 mics and a wondeful acoustic guitar sound. Really pleased with three of the tracks and was amazed how good they sound with just an acoustic and voice. I've had a great response from close friends and fellow musicians. These will be used as pre-production tracks for my new album. This will be a slightly later release than first announced but I've made some changes with my musical direction i.e production and location. I was finding it too much to have my music based in Wales and my life and family in London. Since joining MySpace I keep being told to get my music into t.v and film, so I've been hard at it researching music supervision companies and submitting material (any help or advice welcome). Busy times ahead I feel, I've been asked to do an unplugged performance as a DVD of the songs from "Celebrate" which is really exciting. So a lot of changes with my second album and I had hard descisions to make, but when the music does not feel right it's just not worth it. Changing producer and studio was the toughy, a lot of thought and much needed advice helped me with this and I had to face some home truths from fans and close friends. So onwards to album 2 and the future of my music, it's such an unknown, sometimes euphoric feelings of achievement and then a sense of dissapointment. I'm still counting my lucky stars that I have music in my life and maybe it's the not knowing that makes it so bloody worthwhile. As of today "I'm loving it" and feeling in a great place and totally focused.

Why Do I Do This

So here I am 9 months after releasing my first album. To think I'd given up on music and honestly thought what is the point. My guitar under the bed, but for 13 years I had melodies and lyrics banging at my head from the inside. I never thought technology would release me from a hum drum life of work, mortgage, shit TV and not being able to say my bit about this crazy world along with the good and not so good I've met along the way. This renaissance (hate using that word but I've typed it now) started with a four track cassette recorder bought for £100. I started to play again and RECORD my heart and soul into a microphone. This was fun and totally just me in a headphone world. A friend drops by and says "get with the beat Al" I was given some recording software for my pc. Well fuck me! this is fun and within weeks I've recorded a three song CD and people liked it a lot. Why not print some covers and send them to publishers, replies abound admittedly not all positive but the songs are noticed. Why not build a website and put my music out there, yeah why the hell not. So now I'm getting mails from strangers who dig the sounds. Hey up! Next people offer to help me make an album, I'm very wary as I'd been shafted by the music industry in the past and can smell bullshit from a very long range. One offer comes from Wales and then I'm immersed in music and not just my own and I feel the vibe again. I decide to give it a go and start making an album. This becomes a rollercoaster ride of emotions, I realise to write songs and put your inner self on the line without hiding behind image, hype and bullshit is not the easiest thing in the world to do. I can still do it and enjoy it. I'm Living in London but the studio and people who genuinely want to help are 200 miles away. Somehow we work it out logistically and the music grows. So "Celebrate" is released and I'm hooked again, I have the virus and it's rife. I forget to mention I became a father during the making of the album. This was a tricky one but with hard work, compromise and belief I did it and thank Christ I did. I've now started my second album, the new songs are releasing me from years of torment as an artist, not writers block but something I can't describe. I guess a combination of things held me back like getting older, two dear friends that I used to make sweet music with had died of heart attacks in their mid thirties and their music left unheard. I'm doing this for me and both Andy and Duncan (bless them both). The new album does not feel so strange to make, it feels natural and I can't thank enough the wonderful people that are helping me.(they know who they are) I am released, long time coming but worth the wait.

New Album In August 2007

Hi, we've started on the follow up to "Celebrate" I was in Wales for a week. It was a great groove in the studio and we got a lot of drum tracks down. Playing as a three piece combo was such a buzz. Dave Whitelock is producing again and I'm using Ian and Ricky who played on my first album. Plan is to finish recording by the end of July. If you are coming to my acoustic show tomorrow in London, I'll be playing a couple of new songs from the album. Gig details can be found here. Looking forward to releasing this one, still getting plenty of airplay with "Touch The Devil" I'll be needing your help to vote for that song on a radio station in Kansas, I'll put the details up nearer the day. This will give me an opportunity for more airplay on three other shows. I'd still love more feedback on the songs I've posted here.
Well back to rehearsals for tomorrow night.
Take it easy.
Firstly, Happy New Year to Andy and all at My Music Stream. Here is another free demo "Forget Everything" This track made it onto my debut album(with some nice harmonies I must say) I'm thrilled that you've downloaded demo tracks already. The album is available for download at i-Tunes, MP3 Extension, Bitmunk and Music Is Here. Those of you that have downloaded from MMS please give me some feedback on the songs and of course you can listen to finished album versions at www.myspace.com/algoodwinmusic and some 2 minute clips at my official website. Please spread the word for 2007 as I'm now working on my second album.
